Il Visual Effects Society (VES) ha annunciato le nomination per la 24ª edizione dei VES Awards, che celebrano l’eccellenza negli effetti visivi per film, TV, animazione, spot e progetti speciali. La cerimonia si terrà il 25 febbraio 2026 al Beverly Hilton di Los Angeles.
Avatar: Fuoco e Cenere di James Cameron, come da previsione, ha dominato l’annuncio con ben 10 nomination, tra cui Outstanding Visual Effects in a Photoreal Feature e Outstanding Compositing & Lighting in a Feature (dove compete tra l’altro contro se stesso). Il terzo capitolo della saga Pandora ha confermato, oltre che essere un successo commerciale, anche il suo impatto tecnico rivoluzionario, con un focus su ambienti subacquei e creature bioluminescenti che hanno già fatto incetta di premi in questa stagione.
Tra i titoli d’animazione, Elio (Pixar), KPop Demon Hunters (Netflix/Sony Pictures Animation) e Zootropolis 2 (Disney) hanno tutti ottenuto 5 nomination. Nelle categorie televisive, invece, Stranger Things (Netflix), The Last of Us (HBO) e Prehistoric Planet: Ice Age (Apple TV+/BBC Studios) hanno ottenuto 4 nomination a testa.
La serata di cerimonia premierà, inoltre, con il Lifetime Achievement il produttore Jerry Bruckheimer e con il VES Visionary Award l’artista Richard Taylor (Wētā Workshop).
Con una correlazione storica del 75% con l’Oscar per gli effetti visivi negli ultimi anni, Avatar: Fuoco e Cenere si posiziona come favorito assoluto per la statuetta.
